The interview focuses on showing how the Open University’s mission (to be ‘open to people, places, methods and ideas’) has been at the heart of the institution’s developments, and how the concept of openness has evolved throughout the changes and the challenges of the recent years.

I am a Senior Lecturer in French with 15 years’ experience of distance learning and teaching at the Open University (UK). I joined the Department of Languages in 2005 after 12 years as a Lecturer in French in several other institutions of Higher Education in the UK. I have designed and implemented French courses for distance and online study involving training tutors for the delivery of synchronous and asynchronous e-tutorials. My teaching interests and expertise are in the domain of synchronous online teaching, teacher education, Open Educational Resources, and more recently MOOCs. My research interests include the re-use and re-appropriation of OER for language teaching and the use of learning analytics to inform the learning design of language courses. I am currently studying for a Doctorate in Education. My thesis focuses on adaptation of Open Educational Resources for synchronous online teaching and professional development.
